Christians, is the "Great Commission" your commission?
This is written for Christians that believe that the bible is the only absolute we have to rely on to really know the truth. Based on what the bible teaches about our mission here on earth let's take a look at what the scriptures have to say.......most Christians seem to think that our commission is found in Matthew 28:18-20 let's take a close look at what is said by Jesus in these verses starting with verse 18.....Jesus came and spoke to his disciples ( this occurs after his resurrection ) he said this ....All power is given unto to him in heaven and in earth (otherwise he now rules both ). Verse 19 He says to them go ye ( otherwise to his disciples ) because of what I just told ye and teach all nations, baptizing ( for remission of their sins (see Acts 2:38-39 ) in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Verse 20......Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you (otherwise ) all Jewish things, including Jewish holy days and all the ifs ands and buts. I am with you alway, even until the end of the WORLD amen.....See acts 1:6-9. The meaning the word disciple as in the Strongs's Concordance is a learner or pupil. Seems pretty clear that Jesus was instructing his disciples to go and teach what they had learned from him. No mention of gospel at all, all Jewish teaching about Jesus as the messiah. Will cover the other commission given in the word next time.
